  2.              GUIDELINES FOR MODEM PREPARATION

  4. YOUR MODEM HAS THE ABILITY TO ADJUST ITS IMPEDANCE TO MATCH  YOUR
  5. LOCAL PHONE LINE.
  6.  
  7.                           Enter 'terminal' mode. Type  AT\E1  and
  8. press  the [enter] key. This tells your modem to adjust  to  your
  9. phone line when you make your next V.32bis call. Make the V.32bis
  10. call  immediately  after entering AT\E1. You may not  connect  on
  11. the  first   try, as the modem will be  making  this  adjustment.
  12. However  your modem will now be adjusted to the phone  line,  and
  13. this  step will not have to be repeated unless you  change  phone
  14. lines.

  17.                  V.32 / V.42bis Dialing Prefixes
  18.  
  19.      The  normal dial Prefix is ATDT. If the number  is  423-1563
  20. then  it sends ATDT4231563 to the modem, which then  dials,   and
  21. connects. This is using auto-speed (baud) negotiation as well  as
  22. negotiating   Protocol (V.42bis, MNP etc.). Some  modems/software
  23. you   will  call  do NOT like this.  Listed  are  alternate  dial
  24. Prefixes you may use.

  26. AT&Q5N1DT           :negotiates SPEED and Protocol (default) 1
  27. AT&Q6N1DT           :negotiates SPEED only 1
  28. AT&Q5S37=11N0DT     :*Connect 14400, negotiate Protocol 1 2
  29. AT&Q6S37=11N0DT     :*Connect 14400 only 2
  30. AT&Q5S37=9N0DT      :*Connect 9600, negotiate Protocol 1
  31. AT&Q6S37=9N0DT      :*Connect 9600 only 1
  32. AT&Q5S37=6N0DT      :Connect 2400, negotiate Protocol 1
  33. AT&Q6S37=6N0DT      :Connect 2400 only 1
  34. AT&Q5S37=5N0DT      :Connect 1200, negotiate Protocol 1
  35. AT&Q6S37=5N0DT      :Connect 1200 only 1
  36. AT&Q5S37=1N0DT      :Connect 300, negotiate Protocol 1
  37. AT&Q6S37=1N0DT      :Connect 300 only 1

  42.               Connect result messages / modem speed
  43.  
  44. S95=44   gives  you full result messages with CONNECT  (modem  to
  45. computer  speed).  If you need CONNECT (modem  to   modem)  speed
  46. the  same as CARRIER (modem to modem) use S95=45. When running  a
  47. BBS,  try  S95=3 and you will get only CONNECT(carrier)  message,
  48. with \ARQ for error correcting  modems.  Always set your  'speed'
  49. in your program to  the highest permissable computer - to - modem
  50. speed (check your manual). The V.32xx or V.42bis modem will  take
  51. care of modem to modem speed.
